[11.15] Indian working sans visa nabbed, nobody above the law, tansingco warn

CAGAYAN, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration has arrested an Indian national found conducting a sales business without proper work visas or permits.

BI Intelligence Division Chief "Fortunato Manahan, Jr." said the alien was 36-year-old Inderjeet Bamdev, who was arrested at his shop in Brgy. Centro Norte, Camalaniugan, Cagayan on oct.24.

According to "Manahan,' "Bamdev" was arrested after receiving complaints that he was conducting business without a proper visa.

“It took hours to take Bamdev into our custody as he refused the arrest. He even bragged that he has the backing of some law enforcement officers and that he is untouchable by BI,” Manahan disclosed further.

A review of "Bamdev's," travel records and visa status revealed that he had been in the country for over four years without being able to obtain a suitable visa.

"Bamdev," has now violated the terms of his stay and Sec. 37(a)(7) of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940.

BI Commissioner "Norman Tansingco," then lamented how some illegal foreigners behave in the country. "Tansingco," said it was "disappointing to think that some people could easily evade our authorities."

“Nobody is above the law. Adhere to it or face deportation,” he

added. "Bamdev," is being held at BI’s detention center in Taguig pending deportation proceedings.
