[1.23] 3 Laos-Bound Trafficking Victims Intercepted at NAIA

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has reported that employees at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) have arrested three additional trafficking victims who attempted to leave the country by disguising themselves as tourists.

Immigration Commissioner "Norman Tansingco," said passengers were barred from leaving the country last Friday before boarding an AirAsia flight from NAIA 3 to Bangkok, Thailand at the NAIA terminal 3.

“Our campaign against human trafficking will not be interrupted. We urge this Syndicate to double its boundaries so that poor compatriots do not fall victim to their activities.

"Tansingco," said the three later confirming their final destination was Vientiane, Laos, where they were said to have been hired as customer service representatives for the company, promising a salary of between Php30,000 and Php40,000 a month.

“The modus operandi employed here by the syndicate is for their victims who were disguised as tourists to initially fly to Thailand where they would later board a connecting flight

to Laos,” "Tangsinco" said.

It did not release the names of the passengers because it is prohibited by law to disclose the names of trafficking victims.

According to "Ann Camille Mina," head of the BI TCEU (Travel Control and Enforcement Unit), the victim made inconsistent statements during interviews and provided fake employment documents to appear that they are employed in the country. 

They confessed that presumed documents were handed to them at the airport hours earlier.

The victim was then turned over to IACAT (Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking ) for investigation and prosecution of recruiters.
