[11.16] BI rolls out updated system OFW's priorities.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Bureau of Immigration  (BI) Commissioner "Norman Tansingco," has pledged to prioritize Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) traveling in and out of the country during this holiday.

According to "Tansingco," they recently released the latest update to their Border Control Information System (BCIS), a centralized database of all travel records for inbound and outbound passengers.

Tansingco shared that the latest update, launched on October 28, has resolved technical deficiencies, mainly in connection with the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) authentication system of the DMW (Department of Migrant Workers). 

The system is a database that shares information so that BI can access the DMW's OEC history, reducing paperwork for those leaving the OFW. The system will be integrated into the BI system to allow searching and viewing of OFW history corresponding to OECs presented by immigration officers.

In addition to faster processing, the system enabled BI personnel to instantly review and block fake OECs submitted by victims of illegal employment and human trafficking.

“This e-system has truly been instrumental in the improvement of services of both the BI and the DMW for OFWs,” said "Tansingco.," “We thank DMW Secretary "Susan Ople," for the partnership in improving services for our kababayans,” 

He added that most of the technical deficiencies that have arisen previously have been resolved and that there is ongoing communication with DMW on improvements that can be implemented in the system.

The most recent one, he stated, was the issuance of the DMW of a QR code that would allow OFWs to access their records, which have been integrated into the BI’s system.

He shared that they have allocated about a third of their counters to prioritize OFWs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

“We expect an influx of OFWs traveling to the country this holiday season,” said "Tansingco." “Hence we want to make sure to give them the best and most efficient service, so

they can spend more time with their families,” he added
