MANILA - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Earthquakes said the Mayon volcano's alert level has risen amid signs of unrest on Sunday.

Phivolcs said Mayon was placed in a state of Alert Level 1 or alert level 0,or normal to low levels of anxiety.

“The public is reminded that entry into a 6-km Permanent Danger Zone or PDZ should be strictly avoided due to the continued risk of sudden steam or sudden explosions and continuing risk of rockfalls, avalanches and ash eruptions that can occur without warning in normal areas."  Phivolcs said. "

The seismology agency also advised people living in valleys and active river channels near volcanoes to stay vigilant against sediment-laden river flows and lahars during heavy rains.

Mayon is the most active volcano  in the Philippines and last erupted in 2018
