[8.26] Oil price hikes could reach as high as 5 pesos next week, a DOE executive says.

MANILA -- Fuel prices could rise up to 5 pesos next week as demand for petroleum products continues to grow, the Department of Energy said on Friday.

"Rodela Romero," Assistant director of the agency, said the outlook still depends on when the deal ends later in the day.

"Romero" expects the estimated price of diesel and kerosene to rise by 5 pesos starting next week, and the price of gasoline to rise by more than 1 peso.

"She said at a public briefing. "We don't want to give a price. It's quite big for next week," she said in a public briefing.

She added, "The deal is not over yet, so let's wait and see how the deal on Tuesday's adjustment affects, as I said on Friday."

The official attributed the continued price hike to rising demand for fuel products and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

She said countries preparing for the cold season are also starting to use more fuel.

"Some countries have cold seasons, and they use them to keep them warm. And some countries already have harvest seasons. They are using petroleum products," she said.

The Philippines began to conduct classes in person this week after two years of distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Land Transportation  Franchising and Regulatory Board  recently allowed more routes to reopen.
