[9.20] Classes are suspended in NCR and nearby provinces due to heavy rains

MANILA – The Local government units in the National Capital Region (NCR) and nearby provinces successively announced the class suspension on Tuesday as the southwest monsoon brought heavy rains to Luzon.

In Metro Manila, afternoon classes in public and private schools were suspended on all levels in Caloocan, Marikina, Las Piñas, Malabon, Navotas, Mandaluyong, Pasay, Parañaque, Pateros, Taguig, Muntinlupa, and Valenzuela.

The suspension, as advised by Valenzuela Mayor "Wes Gatchalian," Navotas City Mayor "Rey Tiangco," Parañaque Mayor "Edwin Olivarez," Malabon City "Jeannie Sandoval," and Pateros Mayor "Miguel Ponce III," took effect at noon. Meanwhile, Pasay City implemented the suspension from 1 p.m. onwards.

The University of the Philippines-Diliman in Quezon City also suspended the classes.

Class suspensions were also declared in all levels in the entire province of Rizal.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to persist in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bataan, and Zambales.

However, the southwest monsoon will also generally affect the rest of the country with isolated rain showers.
