[9.24] PBBM calls for peace to end crises in Taiwan, Korea, and Russia-Ukraine.

"Marcos," said the Philippine government hopes to resolve the Taiwan crisis peacefully while adhering to the "one China" principle followed by Beijing.

He referred to Beijing's "One China" policy, where there is only one Chinese government and Taiwan is part of China.

“In this context, we are certainly concerned about escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait just north of the Philippines. We urge all parties involved to refrain as much as possible,'' he said at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City.

China has held military drills near Taiwan in retaliation for U.S. House Speaker "Nancy Felosi's," recent visit to Taipei and suspended defense and climate change cooperation with the United States.

"Marcos" also stressed the importance of taking "confidence-building measures" on the Korean Peninsula to achieve peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

“We are ready to play a constructive role in the peaceful and denuclearized development of the Korean Peninsula through trust-building measures among various stakeholders,” he said.

North Korea's provocations and pursuit of nuclear weapons threaten peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

In the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, "Marcos," reiterated the Philippines' demand that the two countries must continue to adopt peaceful means to maintain international peace and security.

"The Philippines voted in favor of three UN General Assembly resolutions on Ukraine," he said, referring to a resolution denouncing Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

In the recent situation, "Marcos," said the Philippines is dedicated to maintaining peace and promoting partnerships with the neighbors, especially the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) partners.

"We will continue to strive to strengthen dialogue partnerships with ASEAN, especially with neighboring countries that support peace and security in the region," Marcos said.

“We believe that these dialogue mechanisms and security agreements will build on the ASEAN-centric regional security architecture and existing intra-regional quantum security partnership networks built over decades by ASEAN and its member country partners. I think it should complement, not replace," he added.

Peace and security took center stage in "Marcos" historic speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Wednesday (Manila time).

In his keynote address at the 77th UNGA Opening Ceremony, "Marcos" reaffirmed the Philippines' commitment to the fundamental principles of the United Nations to uphold peace, security, and stability among nations. (PNA)
