마닐라 – 인천에서 출발한 대한항공 여객기 승객 162명과 승무원 11명 전원이 일요일 늦은 막탄-세부 국제공항 활주로를 덮쳐 안전하다고 항공사가 월요일 확인했다고 항공사가 확인했다.

대한항공은 이메일을 통해 "인명 피해는 없었고 승객 전원이 안전하게 대피했다"고 밝혔다.

KE 631편은 오후 10시께 세부에 도착할 예정이었으며 악천후 속에서도 두 차례 착륙을 시도했다. 세 번째 시도에서 A330-300 항공기는 밤 11시 7분에 도착했다. 그리고 공항 활주로를 넘었다.

대한항공 측은 "현재 사고 원인을 파악하고 있다"고 말했다.

승객들을 현지 호텔 3곳으로 안내했으며 대체 항공편을 마련하고 있다고 덧붙였다.

한편, 활주로는 항공기 장애물로 폐쇄됐다.

마닐라 국제공항 당국은 지금까지 니노이 아키노 국제공항과 세부 간 항공편이 16편 취소됐다고 기록했다.

[10.24] All passengers are safe as Korean Air aircraft overruns the Cebu runway

MANILA – All the 162 passengers and 11 crew of a Korean Air aircraft from Incheon are reported safe after the plane overran the runway at Mactan-Cebu International Airport late Sunday, the airline confirmed on Monday.

"There were no injuries and all passengers safely evacuated the aircraft," Korean Air said in an email.

Flight KE 631 was expected to arrive in Cebu at 10 p.m., and attempted to land twice amid the bad weather. On the third attempt, the A330-300 aircraft arrived at 11:07 p.m. and overran the airport's runway.

"We are currently identifying the cause of the incident," the airline said.

It added that passengers were escorted to three local hotels, and an alternative flight is being arranged.

Meanwhile, the runway has been closed due to aircraft obstruction.

The Manila International Airport Authority has so far logged 16 canceled flights between the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Cebu.
