[10.2] More areas in N. Luzon under Signal No. 1 as Jenny intensifies

MANILA – More areas in northern Luzon have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 as Typhoon Jenny intensified.

In its 11 a.m. update on Monday, the weather bureau said Jenny now packs maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph. The typhoon was last tracked 600 km. east of Calayan, Cagayan.

Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, northern and eastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan, Santa Maria, San Pablo, Tumauini, Cabagan, Ilagan City, San Mariano, Santo Tomas), Apayao and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Carasi, Vintar, Burgos, Dumalneg, Bangui, Pagudpud, Adams) have been placed under signal no. 1. Minimal to minor impacts are possible in those areas due to strong winds.

Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Bicol Region will continue to experience gusty conditions as Jenny enhances the southwest monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Heavy rains may be experienced over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and the northern portion of mainland Cagayan. Floods and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards.

The enhanced southwest monsoon will also cause occasional to monsoon rains over the western portion of Central and Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao in the next three days.

Meanwhile, rough to very rough seas may be experienced over the coastal waters of the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon.

Sea travel is risky for small seacraft, including all motor bancas of any type or tonnage. Mariners of these vessels are urged to remain in port or seek safe harbor.

Moderate to rough seas continue to prevail over the coastal waters of Isabela. PAGASA advised mariners of motor bancas and similarly-sized vessels to take precautionary measures while venturing to the sea. (PNA)
