[10.28] Signal No. 2 in Bicol and  Samar  as Tropical Storm Paeng slightly intensified

MANILA - Parts of Luzon and the Visayas are currently under TCWS (Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal) No. 2 as Tropical Typhoon Paeng intensifies slightly, the weather bureau said on Friday.

Paeng is currently blowing sustained winds of up to 75 kph and gusts of up to 90 kph near its center. it was last tracked 410km. East of Borongan City, East of Samar.

TCWS No. 2 has been hoisted in Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Camarines Sur East (Caramoan, Galchitorena, Presentacion, Lagonoy, Goa, San Jose, Tigaon, Iriga City, Saglay, Buhi) Northern Samar and throughout the Northern Region of Eastern Samar (Jipapad, Arteche, Oras, San Policarpo, Maslog, Dolores, Can-Avid, Taft)

Winds can reach strong wind strengths in this area.

TCWS No. 1, on the other hand, has been hoisted over Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Camarines Norte, the rest of Camarines Sur, Romblon, Marinduque, Quezon including Pollilo Islands, Laguna, and Rizal.

Also under TCWS No. 1 are Samar, the rest of Eastern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and the northern portion of Cebu (Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Tabogon, City of Bogo, Borbon) including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands and the northern portion of Surigao del Sur (Carrascal, Cantilan, Madrid, Carmen, Lanuza, Cortes, City of Tandag, Bayabas, Tago, Cagwait)

Strong winds will prevail in these areas.

The surge of the northeast monsoon enhanced will also bring strong winds with gusts reaching gale-force strength over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos provinces, the northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan, the eastern portions of Isabela, and the northern portion of Apayao.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (PAGASA) said Paeng it would cause heavy to intense torrential rains in the Bicol region, northern Samar, Samar, and Eastern Samar.

Floods and rainfall-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas highly vulnerable to these hazards.

Meanwhile, rough to very rough seas will prevail over the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon and the Visayas, the eastern, northern, and western seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and another small seacrafts not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves. (PNA)

On the other hand, rough or very rough seas predominate on the eastern coast of Southern Luzon and the Visayas, the eastern, northern, and western coasts of Northern Luzon, the eastern coast of Central Luzon, and the eastern coast of Mindanao.
