[10.18] Army survey of the truck crash that 8 soldiers are dead

MANILA – The Philippine Army (PA) has ordered an investigation on the truck mishap which left eight soldiers dead and six others injured in Barangay Buena Suerte, Uson, Masbate on Sunday night.

Earlier reports said the involved military personnel were from the 2nd Infantry Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division and were delivering supplies when their KM-450 truck rammed into a cement truck mixer.

"They were on their way to their temporary patrol base in Barangay Paguihaman when their military truck unexpectedly flipped over and crashed into a parked cement mixer. Initial reports state that the rear left tire exploded causing the vehicle to lose control. The mishap resulted in six outright casualties," PA spokesperson Col. "Xerxes Trinidad" said in a statement late Monday.

Two more died while undergoing treatment in a hospital. Of the six injured soldiers, one is in critical condition at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital.

The other five are now in stable condition at the Masbate Provincial Hospital but need further medical examinations.

"Army chief Lt. Gen. "Romeo S. Brawner Jr." condoles with the families of the eight soldiers who died in the Uson, Masbate vehicular accident. Further, the Army chief also assured that soldiers injured will be given necessary medical care and support to their families," "Trinidad" said.
