MANILA – BOC(세관국)는 해외 필리핀 근로자(OFW)의 수하물 안에 있는 장난감 비행기를 검사하여 발생한 문제에 대해 사과했습니다.

보고서에 따르면 홍콩에서 온 OFW인 승객은 아들을 위한 선물로 장난감 비행기를 가져왔습니다.

국은 수요일 발표한 성명에서 “불편을 끼쳐드린 승객들에게 진심으로 사과드리며 승객들의 의도치 않은 실수로 인해 발생한 실수를 인정한다”고 밝혔다.

동시에 관세청은 "이 목표에 부합하고 향후 유사한 일이 발생하지 않도록 절차"를 재검토하겠다고 다짐했습니다.

해당 모형항공기는 X-ray 검사 중 수상한 영상이 보여 이적검사를 진행한 것으로 알려졌다.

세관원이 장난감 비행기가 불법 마약과 같은 밀수품을 은폐하는 데 사용되는지 확인하기 위해 망치로 부수는 영상이 화제를 모았습니다.

BOC는 "PDEA(필리핀 마약 단속국)와의 긴밀한 조정과 기존 절차 규칙에 따라 승객의 동의와 관련 당사자들의 입회하에 항공기 모델을 물리적으로 검사했다"고 밝혔다.

이어 "항공기 모델에서 금지·규제 물질이 발견되지 않은 것으로 확인돼 조사가 종료됐다"고 덧붙였다.

이전 사례에서 이 X-레이 기계는 장난감과 가정용품에 동일한 이미지를 생성했으며 나중에 숨겨진 불법 물질에 대해 긍정적인 결과를 얻었습니다.

“BOC는 불법 마약에 대한 대통령의 요청에 따라 불법 상품의 유입으로부터 국경을 보호하는 역할을 진지하게 수행합니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 우리는 보안과 승객 편의의 균형이 중요하다는 것을 이해하고 있습니다."라고 덧붙였습니다. (PNA)

[4.5] BOC sorry for 'unintentional error' after smashing toy plane

MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has apologized to an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) for the trouble caused by the examination of a toy airplane inside her luggage.

Reports said the passenger, an OFW from Hong Kong, brought the toy plane as a gift for her son.

“We sincerely apologize to the concerned passenger for any inconvenience it may have caused and recognizes the unintentional errors committed at the expense of our passengers,” the bureau said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

At the same time, Customs vowed to review its “procedures to align with this goal and to avoid similar occurrences in the future.”

It noted that the model aircraft underwent physical inspection after a suspicious image was shown during an X-ray inspection.

A viral video showed a Customs officer smashing a toy plane with a hammer to determine if it was being used to conceal contraband such as illegal drugs.

“Upon close coordination with PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) and consistent with existing rules of procedure, the aircraft model was physically examined, with the consent of the passenger and as witnessed by the parties involved,” the BOC said.

“The examination was concluded upon confirmation that no prohibited or regulated substance was found inside the aircraft model,” it added.

In previous instances, these X-ray machines produced the same images on toys and household items which later yielded positive results for concealed illegal substances.

“The BOC takes its role seriously to keep our borders free from the entry of illicit goods in line with the President's call against illegal drugs. Nevertheless, we understand the importance of balancing security and passenger comfort,” it added. (PNA)
